Thing 14

I've done all the activities with Technorati, but I haven't been very successful in doing the word searches. I found there were 26,489 blog posts for learning 2.0. That can't be right. I found the top searches and top blogs lists, but can't figure out how to search them. I'll try again. I really had forgotten to do this thing.

thing 9

I got help to find that I really had created a blogline in thing 8, I just wasn't able to add Merlin to it. She helped me do that, so now it is there.

Thing 8- bloglines

I thought I created a blogline for myself, but it didn't work. I forgot to post that I had done it. This was a very frustrating exercise, and I didn't have help available that day.

Thing 6

I did this a long time ago but forgot to blog it. I liked the librarian trading cards.

thing 2 - 7 habits of life-long learning

I did this one a long time ago, but forgot to post it once I had created my blog site. The easiest habit for me is the first one - to begin with an end in mind. The hardest one is to have confidence in myself as a competent, effective learner.

Thing 23

At last I have completed it! It was an intersting experience learning about such a variety of internet tools. My home branch gave me time to work on it, but I also worked at home, since I only work 8 hours a week.
My favorite experience was creating a search tool with Rollyo. I was able to do it without asking for help, and it actually worked!
Doing the 23 things helped me with my goal of learning more ways to use the computer.
One unexpected outcome of the program was finding a practical use for the Rollyo I created. I can look up information about upcoming bird walks by just going to one sight.
Future courses like this could be improved by having more(some) feedback when we finish each task. Also, I would appreciate some review or a print copy to refer to to refresh my memory.
Since I work so few hours, I probably won't participate in another program like this because of time restraints. I enjoyed doing it.
I learned a lot from this program, but I'm not sure I'll retain it. These things need to be used constantly to be really learned.

#22

The introductory tutorial for netlibrary was very detailed and easy to understand. It sounded as if it would be hard to use on my computer, so I went to overdrive and opened an account and checked out a book. I also downloaded the equipment to listen to it on my computer. I haven't downloaded the book yet because with my dial up computer it suggest to download it overnight. I don't think I will be using this feature until I get different Internet service.

Podcasts

This was not very successful. I tried Podcast.net at work. I looked up several headings under news, but they were so dated they wouldn't be useful in the library. Even though I was on the computer in the library I couldn't listen to any of them. I was able to listen to and watch the nice ninja tutorial.

Today I tried the Yahoo sight. It seems to have some very interesting sights that would be useful in the library. Book voyage about children's literature by a school librarian seemed especially interesting. I wasn't able to listen to any of the programs because it seems to need special equipment which I don't have on my computer here at home.

The Yahoo sight also said they were closing October 31.

YouTube

Some of the entries were a lot better that others. I looked for videos of Maryland birds. Some were very short, and with poor picture quality. Others were much better and even had sound. I particularly enjoyed one on a Maryland garden.

number 19

I may have already blogged about this. It has been a while since I did it and I don't really remember it. I have to use the time I'm scheduled to work on the 23 things. I have it checked off that I did it, and the password I used.

No. 18

These word processing sheets are easy to use, and a good thing for the public computers because a customer can save data without purchasing a disc.

wikis

I added an entry to the Sandbox wiki, but I'm not sure it worked.

library 2.0

These articles were interesting, but a bit like fantasy. I don't know many customers who would be able or willing to do the things suggested, even if they were really simplified. These are dreams for techno nerds.

The article called "A Temporary Place in Time" was interesting.

Tagging

Del.cio.us is a very useful site. I wish they would have had it when I was in graduate school. It would have made research on my disertation a lot easier. I wish they would have had personal computers when I was in grad school!

creating a rollyo

I'm so pleased that I was able to do this one without asking for help. It works! I did one on birding, and used it to locate the next nearby bird walk.

I was surprised when I bought a new mattress, and it had what looked like a flash drive in the end. You take it out and plug it into the port on your computer and it registers your mattress and gives you info on its content. Isn't technology great?

week 2

I did it, with help!
